Futagami Brass Bottle Opener - Nisshoku (Eclipse)

Regular price

The "Nisshoku"- meaning Solar Eclipse - is a sophisticated exploration of light and shadow in solid brass. Designed by Masanori Oji and cast by the historic Futagami foundry, this piece reimagines the bottle opener as a poetic, celestial sculpture. Its design consists of two intersecting circles that mimic the moon passing before the sun, creating a functional tool that remains strikingly beautiful even when not in use. The central void is intentionally sized to allow the opener to be hung over the neck of a bottle, ensuring it is always within reach for your next gathering.

Craftsmanship & Texture

A signature of the Futagami aesthetic, the Eclipse features a nuanced play of finishes. The primary exterior surfaces are finished with a refined, smooth luster, while the interior edges reveal the "Ihada" sand-cast texture. This raw, sandy finish is a nod to the traditional casting processes of Takaoka, providing a tactile, non-slip grip and a substantial weight that gives the object a real presence in the hand.

A Material That Ages With You

Founded in 1897 in Toyama Prefecture, Futagami originally specialized in the meticulous production of brass artifacts for Buddhist altar equipment. Today, they apply that same spiritual precision to contemporary "livingware." Crafted from solid, lead-free brass, the Eclipse is an evolving object. Through daily use and the natural passage of time, the metal’s gentle luster will develop a deep, storied patina, creating a unique character that is entirely your own.

Dimensions: 77.5mm x 60mm x 6mm

Material: Solid Brass

Note: Brass is a living material. While its initial brightness can be restored with a metal polish, we recommend allowing the natural oxidation process to occur, resulting in a richer, subtler quality that grows more beautiful with every year of use.
