Futagami Brass Bottle Opener - Mikazuki (Crescent)
The "Mikazuki" - meaning crescent moon - is a study in sculptural utility. Designed by Masanori Oji and produced by the historic Futagami foundry, this piece reimagines a common tool as a graceful, celestial form. While its minimalist circular silhouette may not immediately reveal its purpose, the design is remarkably intuitive; the inner void allows the opener to be hung elegantly over the neck of a bottle, while its weighted base allows it to stand upright as a striking decorative object on a bar cart or dining table.
Craftsmanship & Texture
As with all Futagami "livingware," the Mikazuki emphasizes a sophisticated play of textures. The exterior surfaces are finished with a refined, smooth luster, while the interior reveals the "Ihada" sand-cast texture. This intentional contrast is a signature of the traditional Takaoka casting process, providing a tactile, secure grip and a substantial feel in the hand that speaks to its solid brass construction.
A Material That Ages With You
Founded in 1897 in Takaoka, Japan, Futagami originally specialized in the meticulous production of brass artifacts for Buddhist traditions. Today, they apply that same spiritual precision to contemporary objects. Crafted from solid, lead-free brass, the Mikazuki is an evolving companion. Over years of gatherings and celebrations, it will develop a deep, storied patina, documenting the touch of your hands and the passage of time.
Dimensions: 65mm x 10mm
Material: Solid Brass
Design: Oji Masanori
Note: Brass is a living material. While its original luster can be maintained with a metal polish, we recommend allowing the natural oxidation process to occur. This creates a unique, darkened character that ensures the piece becomes truly one-of-a-kind.
